Maximise your mobile opportunity with the latest Qt SDK

Maximise your mobile opportunity with the latest Qt SDK:
Update: The Qt SDK 1.2.1 is now available for download. It brings increased stability to the Qt SDK 1.2. The updated SDK includes Qt 4.8.1 desktop installers for Mac and Windows in addition to Qt source packages. Qt 4.8.1 is the first patch release to the 4.8 series with over 200 functional improvements, mainly for Qt’s desktop and embedded platforms. For more details please see the Qt 4.8 library release blog post on the Qt blog.
There are two technologies at the heart of the Qt SDK’s ability to deliver apps to a wide range of phones: Qt Quick and Qt Mobility.
Qt Quick is a technology that makes the creation of rich, fluid UIs easier than you thought possible. Based on JavaScript-like QML language, you can either hand code UIs or make use of the visual design tools in the Qt SDK. In addition to the usual UI features, Qt Quick includes great animation features to bring UIs alive — and recent releases have added right-to-left text and pinch area support. To make life even easier, the SDK includes Qt Quick Components: providing a comprehensive collection of UI building blocks that are compatible with both Symbian Anna/Belle and N9 UIs. So for elements such as toolbars, buttons, lists, and menus among others, you don’t have to worry about coding from scratch and are freed to concentrate on the aspects of your app’s UI that will make it truly appealing to your users.
Under the hood, Qt Mobility provides a range of cross platform APIs that enable your app to take advantage of many of the capabilities in Symbian phones and the Nokia N9. Among the latest feature of these APIs is support for Bluetooth connectivity and NFC. Coupled with Nokia’s extensive range of NFC enabled phones, these technologies enable you to start and explore a range of new interaction paradigms that will be shaping mobility in the coming years. Qt Mobility already supports Nokia Maps.
The Qt SDK is available as a free-of-charge download from Nokia Developer and can be used on Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac OS, and Ubuntu Linux powered PCs. To get started start with building your app today, check out the many tutorials and example apps on the Nokia Developer website.
